X1 Manchester Waters

Manchester

The Brief

Vermont would be delivering this multi-phase development on behalf of ‘X1 Developments’. This residential scheme will help transform the area and allow for new business, residential and leisure opportunities.

The X1 Manchester Waters project required many architectural features which encapsulated the surrounding areas history whilst creating an eye-catching aesthetic. We were chosen to supply and manage the structural package.

Our Approach

  • The design of the structure is heavily influenced by the prominent canal-side setting. This means the buildings have a nautical appearance with rounded and raking fronts.
  • The nautical identity of the structure was the rounded ship-like front façade. To achieve this feature, curved members would be utilised to create rounded-balconies echoing a ships-prow.
  • To ensure the high level of aesthetics for these primary features we would retrofit these balconies. These features would be pre-fabricated units brought to site and bolted to place to reduce site time and work.
  • V-shaped tubular columns weighing 8 tonnes each support a cantilever, which will be visible upon completion. So special care in the design and fabrication process was imperative to obtain the level of aesthetics required.
