Because I wanted to pursue a career in engineering
I have held various roles within the business which gave me abroad appreciation for the steel industry. It has also helped develop my overall knowledge of structural steel engineering, from detailing to welding.
I love seeing a job go from a conceptual vision to an actual building, and I love playing a part in this process
Technical Director
Technical director, soon to become the Managing director
After leaving university in 1997 I wanted to combine my technical skills together with my shop floor apprenticeship experience in structural steelwork, Elland Steel gave me the opportunity to develop within the drawing office.
I began within the company as a GA draughtsman, when the opportunity arose, I put myself forward for the drawing office manager role in 1999. I was then promoted to technical manager in 2006, responsible for the design and drawing offices both at Halifax and Billingham. In 2008 I became the technical director, soon to become the managing director in 2021.
