Wood Wharf Phase 1

Canary Wharf

The Brief

These two buildings will form part of the first Phase of Commercial Developments in Wood Wharf. This development in particular is a mix of commercial and residential property.

D1/D2  will be a 28,000m² commercial building, with 14 storeys of flexible floorplates accentuated with balconies and roof terraces. B3 will be a hybrid building incorporating a new hotel and co-working space. CWC appointed us to supply the structural package for both these projects.

Our Approach

  • Both buildings were in close proximity to the Canary Wharf Dockland as well as rail tunnels underneath. All of these had to be considered in the buildings design elements.
  • D1/D2  is the largest of the structures in this Phase 1 development, comprising of a multi-storey steel frame. Steel was chosen for its flexibility and adaptability, specifically with the changing demands of the building.
  • Upon designing and detailing this structure, we ensured that frame and floor layout was adjustable, to meet the needs of any potential new tenants.
  • B3 is a concrete and steel hybrid structure, steel being utilised on the top 4 levels of this building.
  • Our technical team had to ensure the composite frame was correctly tied together whilst also being structurally sound.
