Whitehaven Academy

Whitehaven

The Brief

This new education project will create a building that contains space for 900 pupils focusing curricular on Science, PE and DT. The structure has been designed with flexibility and adaption in mind. This is crucial  as there are future expansion plans hoping to create a 150-pupil sixth form centre in the coming years.

The new facility will replace the existing School which will first be demolished. This new structure will consist of a three-storey education facility as well as a sports hall. We delivered the structural package for this facility including cold rolled and pre-cast units.

Our Approach

  • We handled the supply and installation of multiple features of the structural package, working with both sub-contractors as well as engineers to safely manage these elements.

  • We co-ordinated and managed the supply of off-site intumescent coatings for this project, this element required special care due to the local coastal environment.

  • Weather conditions met that on-site activities were harsh and testing, however our site team overcame these challenges to work effectively and safely throughout the project programme.

  • This project was delivered during the COVID-19 pandemic, which put additional strain on operations during site delivery.
