SPECS Building – University of Hertfordshire

Hatfield, Hertfordshire

The Brief

The SPECS building is a 5-storey building that will be used for the new school of Physics, Engineering & Computer Science.

The SPECS building will be over 15,000 metre squared, making it the largest building at the university. It will provide workshops and laboratories as well as flexible teaching and learning environments.

Our Approach

  • Specialised structural designs and elements were created to accommodate the nature of the use of the building after construction.
  • As the tight site is situated in the centre of the College Lane Campus, we carefully planned our deliveries.
  • We handled the supply and installation of multiple features of the structural package, this included 14,000 metres of metal decking.
  • The feature stairs and the rooftop galvanised steelwork for the plant area were also included in the package.

We were given excellent feedback from AECOM, who gave our technical team high scores for various factors, particularly for our detailing performance. Further comments included:

‘Very good at asking the right questions and setting out programme for works & responses.’

The high scores gained from this project contribute to our excellent Net Promoter Score.
