MGY St John’s Development

Manchester

The Brief

Manchester Goods Yard, as part of the St John’s Development in Manchester city centre. Will provide a total of 31,000m2 of commercial space, across three interlinked building blocks. This ultra-modern, flexible workspaces will be supplemented by a variety of mixed-use facilities.

A two-storey steel frame would sit on top of a reinforced concrete frame, this would allow for a truly flexible work space on the upper-levels. We were chosen to deliver the structural package for this steel frame.

Our Approach

  • Although this project is not large in scale it does require a high level of expertise and execution.
  • The steel frame would need to be tied back into the concrete cores which involves precise design considerations.
  • Concrete drilling requires accuracy to ensure the correct levels and depths are achieved for the necessary connection of concrete to steelwork.
  • Temporary bracing was utilised for the safe loading of plant, steelwork and decking onto the existing concrete frame.
  • The steelwork required a mixture of standard primer and intumescent coatings, we managed both processes for our client to provide a turnkey solution.

Due to the technical requirements of this project, it required all contractors to work collaboratively, to achieve the best outcome for our client. Our ability to work in a collaborative engineering group was commnded by our client throughout this project.
