Hoxton Hotel

High Holborn, London

The Brief

The Hoxton Hotel project consisted of the designing and construction of a new, full height, hotel wing as well as an additional roof-top extension in High Holborn.

It would be a six-storey extension to the main frame of the existing hotel, creating an additional 54 new rooms to the hotel’s capacity. In addition, it would create a feature “green wall” as well as a roof-top element to the building’s makeup.

Our Approach

  • The site was located on a one-way street in central London, meaning logistics would pose a huge challenge to this project.
  • We would be delivering nearly 200 tonnes of steelwork 200+ miles away from our factory on elongated trailers through the backstreets of the capital.
  • The site was situated almost directly above a new cross-rail tunnel for the Central Line, so design considerations for the foundations were important.
  • Erecting steelwork required high levels of expertise given the confined location of the building and it being completely surrounded by other buildings.
  • We worked in collaboration with site officials, the counsel and our client to deliver the package both successfully and to schedule.

The Outcomes

We were commended by our client Garenne for our strict adherence to their site programme, achieving a scoring of 10/10 (Excellent) for deliveries to site. In addition to this we also achieved excellent for our project schedule.

We strive to demonstrate our expertise when delivering projects that offer challenges in many facets of the contract. We continue to work and flourish in the cramped site locations of Central London.

"This is one of the most confined project locations I have worked on both from a logistical and erection standpoint"
