Acquired Brain Injury Hospital Unit

York

The Brief

This new hospital unit will be part of the Disabilities Trust, who specialist in neuro-rehabilitation. They needed a new low-rise building for the Acquired Brain Injuries (ABI) unit, as the old ‘Retreat’ building was closing down.

The building needs to include 40 bed spaces, treatment rooms, a sensory garden and car parking and it cannot exceed 2 storeys.

Our Approach

  • We handled the supply and installation of the structural package.
  • We worked with both sub-contractors as well as engineers to safely manage elements such as precast stairs, metal decking and plant screens.
  • The steelwork for this project was manufactured to execution class 3.
  • The purpose-built healthcare facility meant that 40 patient beds and 145 mental healthcare jobs will be kept in the city.
